There’s something powerful that happens when we step out of our routines, silence the noise, and walk among the trees.
Recently, I took a trip up to Lee Canyon for an outdoor yoga session — just me, my mat, and the mountains. What started as a simple day of stretching and breathing in cooler air quickly became a full-body reminder: nature heals.
As I moved through poses surrounded by towering trees, I felt my nervous system soften. The anxiety I didn’t even realize I was holding started to melt. I was reminded that the earth doesn’t just support us — it wants to heal us.
🌿 Why Being in Nature Is Good for Your Health (According to Science)
Modern life often disconnects us from what our body truly needs. We live indoors, surrounded by screens and artificial light. But science continues to confirm what ancient wisdom has always known: nature restores us.
Here’s what happens when we spend time in forests, near trees, and natural spaces:
🍃 1. Trees Boost Your Immune System
Ever heard of forest bathing? It’s a Japanese practice called shinrin-yoku — intentionally spending time walking in the forest. Trees release essential oils called phytoncides, which when inhaled, increase your body’s production of natural killer cells — a key component of your immune system that fights viruses and tumors.
🌬 2. Nature Reduces Stress Hormones
Multiple studies show that being in green space reduces cortisol (the stress hormone), lowers blood pressure, and improves heart rate variability. Just 20 minutes outdoors can significantly lower your body’s stress response.
🧠 3. Walking Among Trees Improves Mental Health
Nature has been shown to decrease symptoms of anxiety and depression. Forests specifically have a calming frequency — even the sound of wind through leaves has a measurable soothing effect on the mind.
💫 4. Being in Nature Grounds Your Energy
As a Reiki and sound healing practitioner, I deeply believe in the energetic body. Trees hold powerful grounding energy. When you walk barefoot, touch bark, or meditate in nature, your body begins to discharge stored tension. This is called earthing — and it’s real, both spiritually and scientifically.
🧘♀️ My Day at Lee Canyon
Lee Canyon, just an hour from the city lights of Las Vegas, offers peace, stillness, and clean mountain air. During my yoga flow, I felt completely supported by the earth beneath me. The crispness of the air, the rustle of the pine trees, and the sunlight peeking through the branches created an atmosphere that felt like ceremony.
I wasn’t just doing yoga.
I was being.
And that, in itself, was healing.
🌲 My Invitation to You
If you’re feeling anxious, burned out, or stuck in your head — go to the trees.
Take a walk without headphones. Sit in stillness. Touch the bark. Take 10 slow breaths.
You don’t need a wellness retreat to heal.
You need presence, air, and a bit of earth beneath your feet.
🌟 Closing Thought
“Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished.” — Lao Tzu
When we reconnect with nature, we reconnect with ourselves. And in that connection, healing becomes not just possible — it becomes inevitable.
With grounded energy,
